How to pack standard cargo?
International shipments remain relevant. Today, we can send a letter, package, and documents to business partners, friends, or family members to any country in the world. So that there are no unpleasant surprises on the way and the shipment reaches the addressee exactly as intended, it must be completed in accordance with all requirements.

What to know about international shipments?

  • Courier services offer various delivery options: fast delivery, the so-called Express service and slow delivery - an economical service. Prices and delivery times for international shipments vary.
  • In order for the parcel to be delivered to the right place, the address must be accurate: full address of the recipient, contact information (phone number, e-mail).
  • Both the physical weight and volumetric weight of the shipment must be taken into account. The volumetric weight is calculated and compared to the actual weight of the shipment to determine which is greater. A higher weight is used to calculate the cost.
  • Volumetric weight is calculated according to the formula: Length (cm) × Width (cm) × Height (cm) / 5000 = Volumetric weight (kg).
  • Not all courier service providers accept large and fragile packages - this should be clarified in advance so as not to waste time.
  • When shipping outside the EU, you may encounter customs clearance. Each country has its own customs regulations, list of dangerous and prohibited goods.
  • The sender is responsible for the contents of the package, so it is necessary to pack it as carefully and safely as possible.
  • The void in the package must be filled. Fragile items should be wrapped in bubble wrap. The package should also have a fragility mark and/or other signs that need to be taken into account.
  • The packaging must be strong enough to withstand transportation in several modes of transport during the delivery process. The packaging material should be selected according to the size and shape of the shipment.
  • When using previously used packaging, be sure to remove all old addresses (stickers) and barcodes.
  • SIA "P-Serviss" recommends choosing a courier service that provides tracking of the shipment number. In this case, it will also be possible to receive compensation if the delivery is delayed or the package is lost.
  • The tracking number of the shipment should definitely be communicated to the recipient, especially if it is sent outside the EU, to customs zones.
